Last Saturday I spent the day at the Raw Spirit festival in the Santa Barbara mountains. I was so fortunate to meet back up with Matt Monarch and Angela Stokes as well as meet for the first time the lovely Cathy Silvers, Vanessa (aka chocolategirl), and gorgeous Philip McCluskey! I saw David Wolfe, Juliano and Ariel, Solla, and Steve from Raw Vegan Radio. Met up again with Enrique from Henry's raw vegan ice cream (he's so sweet, ha) and met Courtney Pool, Chele Eades, Kevin and Annmarie Gianni from The Renegade Health Show and Revell from Rawkin Radio! I hope I'm not forgetting anyone!

Cathy Silvers hosted David Wolfe and Matt Monarch in a durian eating contest and below are my crazy pictures atop a folding chair! I'm just under five feet tall and this is the best I could get!

I would definitley attend Raw Spirit again with hopes that they make it closer in to a major city, no camping, and perhaps like Courtney from Radical Radiance suggested, they should put it on at a resort. It was very expensive to get in and I know the vendors had to pay a lot of money too. Wondering where the money went? Love the vibe, people watching and of course the food!!

Lastly, here's a birdie from Disneyland just for funsies:

Meditating and reading challenge is going very well, day 5 already! This is a lovely way to start off a very sweet soggy June in the pacific northwest. Thank goodness we have so much to be happy for in our lives cause this weather sucks.

I finished Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips. I wanted to cry so much as I read this book but I found myself brave and strong for these powerful women, their families, their partners, their stories. My tears did fall but most of the time I sat with that beautiful book in reverence. Highly recommended to those who know someone who has had cancer, does have cancer, and those who do and those who are survivors. Kris Carr taught me a lot and the individual stories are real and bold.

Now I'm reading Eating for Beauty by David Wolfe, which happens to be a recommended selection in the back of  Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips. I like David Wolfe sort of how I like watermelon. There are moments I love watermelon, and I'm totally ready for the yummy goodness of how smart it is to eat watermelon and other times, not in the mood for melon. David Wolfe is intense and full of information, charm, charisma, and sell sell sell! That's how I see him, he's got a big watermelon stand. But, I'm still trying to figure out if this is the best place to buy the melon. Alright, enough of the melon… Wolfe gives loads of knowledge and how and why certain foods and their minerals are good for you and I could take endless notes! Very exciting for someone like me with red skin, pimples and rosacea. I know, I know, lucky me- are you jealous? But, while reading this book I've been eating a cucumber every day, increasing my greens, and papaya, and lessening my high fruit diet and my face, just after a few days, i can see improvements. Yeah! Lucky me! Whether this is hormones are diet- we shall see…But I can safely say I no longer subscribe to the whole products for your face scams. I think it's all about what you put in your mouth and poop out your booty! Your skin is a reflection of yummy food and elimination! Hmmmmm, what are you eating today?

today i decided i'm stopping food blogging. i'll still rave if i make something fantastic but as of now i think the learning i wanted to achieve from jotting down my own daily diet has come to an end. it's been a good run and i've been able to see patterns and i hope that it's been helpful to others too.

i love food, i love raw food and i love restaurants and decadent dining experiences. i love to make food now, which is huge and of course i still love to have food made for me, especially by my talented family. examples here: http://bread-and-honey.blogspot.com/.

i'm all about being vegan, eating loads of fruits and vegetables and the wonderful world of green everything! my plan is to continue eating high raw and cooked vegan meals. limiting sugar, beans and grains. i've learned about my cravings, i've learned what i need to fuel my body for runs and strength building. and for me it's a combo of cooked and raw food.

after growing up with endless amounts of cheese, bread, meat, butter, cookies, pasta, ice cream, canned vegetables and canned fruit (sorry mom, it's true! we just all know better now.)… and then being a junk food vegetarian, raw food has put nutrition and health in beautiful focus.

i'm still reading and studying books and blogs, all i can get my hands on. i'm addicted to goneraw and i just love people like david wolfe, juliano, and elaina love.

next here on vox will be musings on my life, hopeful, honest, heartfelt and all that sap i love, save for a few delicious rants and feet-stomping-soapboxing that i'm also keen on.

thanks lovelies!

xoxo

3 mile run, 10 minute trampoline.

B: best smoothie ever! acai, 2 bananas, cup of coconut water and a touch of agave. the sky opened up. delicious!

S: e's apple skins

L: chili con carne- recipe from david wolfe's naked chocolate book. this is fantastic, gourmet looking, smelling and tasting. i cut the recipe and still couldn't finish it.

s: more of e's apple skins, 3 raw cookies. can't seem to get enough nutty fat. the cookies have almonds and cashews in them.

s: the rest of my chili con carne

i made some chocolate strawberry sorbet from naked chocolate, again, with eliot after his "nap", by nap i mean eliot's alone time where he plays and doesn't sleep any more!!

s: few bites of my sorbet/ice cream, not quite ready but rich and really satisfying.

D: kale salad with sunflower seeds, kalamata olives, half a squeezed lemon and a little fresh salsa.

What's the best thing about today?

last night i went to see david wolfe speak and tonight i'm going to a second lecture and they're serving us raw food yummies! that is great.

waking up this morning to eliot calling for me and wanting to talk and giggle was great.

eating a big smoothie, going to jace gace, seeing the gibson fam, then to the park and next a toy store was great.

now i want a great nap before going to see the energetic david again!
